What we actually do differently
Almost every hardscape failure we get called out to look at is the same failure. The base was too thin for the soil, or nobody gave the water a way out. Both are decisions made on day one, both are invisible by the time the job is finished, and both are where a cheaper bid finds its savings.
So that is where we concentrate. Before we quote, someone walks the site and looks at soil type, how water moves across the property, how far equipment can get in, and how much the grade has to change. Those four things move the price more than which paver you pick, and none of them can be judged from a photograph.
Then you get the number in writing, broken into lines you can actually read: excavation, base, bedding, material, labor, edge, joint sand. If a line looks high you can ask about that line specifically, rather than arguing with one lump sum.
How the work gets done
We are a nationwide operation. The crew that builds your patio in Ohio is not the same crew building a pool deck in Arizona, and it should not be, because a base spec that works in one is wrong in the other. What stays constant is the standard: every installer carries liability coverage and workers compensation, we verify it before scheduling, and the build follows the base and drainage spec your climate calls for. If you want to see the certificates, ask and we will send them.
Twelve years in, that is the whole model. Consistent standards, local execution, and a written price that does not move.

Third quote we got and the only one that talked about base depth instead of just showing us paver samples. Two seasons and a hard winter later it is dead flat. That conversation was the reason we picked them.
They talked me out of the dark travertine I wanted and into a lighter one. In August I understand why. My kids can actually walk on it barefoot at 3pm, which was not true of the old concrete.
The wall the previous owner built was leaning into the yard. They showed me there was no drain pipe behind it at all. Rebuilt with proper stone and a daylighted drain, and it has not moved through two wet springs.
We have a delivery truck in and out weekly for the business we run at home. They spec-ed 80mm pavers and a deeper base for that specifically. Four years, no ruts, no settling at the apron.
Steel framed, not wood, which they explained mattered because of the gas appliances. Every rough-in was in before the veneer. Feels like part of the house rather than something parked on the patio.
The old steps had risers that were all slightly different and I tripped on them constantly. The new flight is even the whole way up and I have not thought about it once since, which I suppose is the point.
